Greetings! We are excited to welcome you to Biddle Institute at Johnson C. Smith University! Please review the information in your welcome package to introduce you to Biddle Institute, which includes the Biddle Freshman Program and the Sit Lux Research/Scholars program.
The Biddle Institute programs include proactive contact by faculty and staff, deliberate activities, and required programs. These practices are designed to assist students before concerning situations develop, guide students as they work through concerning situations, and strengthen students’ non-cognitive skills (leadership, motivation, commitment, resilience, self-efficacy, and service) through a variety of programming.
The Pre-Semester Session is a time for students to become acclimated to JCSU academic expectations and campus resources before the entire freshman class arrives. During the Pre-Semester Session, students will be enrolled in a 3 credit course and a 1 credit course. The courses provide engaging and rigorous learning experiences, in addition to evening workshops and activities based on topics designed to create a smooth transition into JCSU.
*Students in the Sit Lux Research/Scholars program, are REQUIRED to attend the Pre-Semester Session.
**Students in the Biddle Freshman Program are encouraged to attend, but it is not mandatory.
